The Giostra del Saracino is a medieval reenactment that takes place on the last Saturday of June and the first Sunday of September at night in the city of Arezzo, presumably from the 13th century. Participate in the neighborhoods where the city is divided, which compete for the Golden Lance. Participants in the debate are the four quarters of Arezzo: the neighborhood of Porta Crucifera (also known as Colcitrone), the neighborhood of Porta del Foro (also known as San Lorentino), the neighborhood of Porta Sant’Angelo and the neighborhood of Porta Santo Spirito (first called Porta del Borgo); It is an ancient knightly competition that has its origins in the middle ages and which is to hit a target located on the shield of the “Barrel” (impersonante the puppet king of the Indies “), with a launch at the end of a fast-riding career. All without getting hit by the “flail”, taken from the same Barrel, which is propelled by a spring mechanism. All surrounded by beautiful, historical and musical events and food that adorn this fantastic reenactment.
