Umbria Jazz: when the allure of music and a medieval town come together

This post is also available in: Italian

This summer the well-known festival of jazz music returns to the Green Heart of Italy.

Considered the most important jazz festival in the Italian peninsula, UJ (as it is commonly abbreviated) takes place every year in July in Perugia, the regional capital of Umbria.

A tradition dating back to the 1970s, Umbria Jazz has hosted many of the founders of modern jazz, such as Dizzy Gillspie, George Coleman and Art Blakey.

A unique opportunity not to be missed because jazz is truly music for everyone!
Since the 1982 edition the main themes of the festival have been two: one based on conventional jazz, the other on so-called black music (blues, gospel, rhythm & blues).

In recent editions, the festival has also opened up to more general music, including rock’n’roll and blues,  hosting the likes of Eric Clapton, Miles Davis, Tony Bennett, Gil Evans, Sting, Alicia Keys, Prince, Phil Collins, Stefano Bollani and many others.

Discover together with Emma Villas the allure of this wonderful festival, set like a precious stone among the Etruscan and medieval walls of the town of Perugia.
